Biomathematics and Statistics Scotland (BioSS)

Input from BioSS can be included in commercial projects to ensure sound experimental design and robust statistical evaluation or, BioSS consultants can provide advice on and the analysis of third party data for clients. 

BioSS is formally part of the James Hutton Institute and is a research institute with expertise in statistical methodology and mathematical modelling, including statistical / computational bioinformatics and statistical genomics. Delivering cutting edge research, high-level consultancy and knowledge exchange, BioSS collaborates with and provides quantitative support to research organisations, government agencies and policy-makers, industry and academia engaged in the life sciences.

BioSS has a base within the James Hutton Institute and works collaboratively with the other Scottish Environment, Food and Agriculture Institutes (SEFARI).   Through BioSS, James Hutton Limited is able to offer customers an unparalleled array of expertise in the application of mathematics and statistics to plant science, animal health & welfare, human health & nutrition, ecology & environmental science and socio-economics. BioSS boasts many years of experience providing quantitative clarity and insight in areas with major societal impact, such as climate change, food security, sustainable agriculture, aquaculture, nutrition and the bioeconomy.
